About Deshi Sprout
Authentic Bangladeshi vegetable seeds, grown in your own backyard
Deshi Sprout helps Bangladeshi and South Asian families across the United States grow the vegetables they grew up with — fresh lau (bottle gourd), begun (eggplant), korola (bitter gourd), pui shak (Indian spinach), lal shak (red amaranth), kacha morich (green chili), and more — right in your own gardens, raised beds, and patio containers.
Our story
Deshi Sprout was born from a simple frustration: walking into American supermarkets and not finding the vegetables our grandmothers cooked with. Pui shak, lal shak, kacha kola, korola — the deshi staples that turn a bowl of dal and rice into home. We started Deshi Sprout to put real Bangladeshi seed varieties into the hands of every diaspora gardener in the US.
Seeds with real roots
We partner with Lal Teer Seed Ltd., Bangladesh's largest and most respected seed breeder, to source the exact same varieties found in kitchen gardens from Dhaka to Sylhet. Every seed is an authentic Bangladeshi cultivar — beloved open-pollinated heirlooms and high-performing F1 hybrids, all bred for flavor, texture, and the home cooking that matters to you.
Why grow your own?
- Authentic taste — flavors you can't find at the local grocery store.
- Fresh & affordable — a $3 packet can feed your family all season long.
- Connection to home — share the joy of gardening with your children and neighbors.
- Climate-tested varieties — each variety page lists Bangladeshi sowing windows you can adapt to your local season.
Shipping across the USA
We ship Deshi Sprout seeds to all 50 states. Every variety page lists sowing time, days to maturity, and growing notes so you can match Bangladesh-calendar guidance to your zone.
Seeds are sold for planting only and not for human consumption. Germination depends on soil, weather, and planting method; results are not guaranteed. Deshi Sprout is an independent US-based business; we source from Lal Teer Seed Ltd. but are not affiliated with them as a company.
